Managed IT Support Brisbane - Built for Businesses That Are Growing
Growth is what breaks IT. Headcount climbs, a second site opens, and the arrangements that held together at five people start costing real money at twenty. This is managed IT for that stage: one senior engineer owning the environment, devices patched, the security baseline maintained, and the person who answers the phone being the person who fixes it. There is no bundled retainer. You pay for the labour you actually use, add the optional per-endpoint security baseline if you want it, add per-device management if your fleet needs it, and combine only the parts that suit your setup. Month to month throughout, with no 36-month term anywhere in it. Building a budget? Read how managed IT services are priced, or what a virtual CIO adds above day-to-day support.
- $180/hr ex GST, all labour
- $29.95/endpoint/mo optional baseline
- Month-to-month, 30 days notice
Three published parts, combined however you need them
Ask most Brisbane providers what it costs and you get a contact form. Here are the numbers. Labour is hourly, always, with a one-hour minimum and 30-minute increments after that. The security baseline and device management sit alongside it as optional extras rather than a bundle you have to buy whole. Every figure below excludes GST. For a plain-English breakdown of what an hour of work actually covers, read our IT support pricing guide.
Ad-Hoc Support
- Troubleshooting, fixes, project work and advice
- Configuration, hardening and remediation
- Frequently the cheapest route for a small team
Security Baseline
- Secure remote support and managed endpoint platforms
- Bitdefender-powered antivirus with automated patching
- Tooling only. Human time is billed at $180/hr
Device Management
- Enrolment, configuration profiles and policy control
- Any mix of Windows, macOS, iOS and Android
- Compliance reporting and a consistent OS build
Take only what earns its keep. Run ad-hoc support at $180/hr ex GST on its own, layer the security baseline over it, add device management, or use all three together. Quoted separately and never folded in quietly: EDR and XDR add-ons, cloud backup, hardware, and specialist projects such as websites, networking, audits and migrations. Those run at $180/hr labour plus any product cost, priced in writing before anyone starts.
Three situations we walk into constantly
Almost every enquiry we receive about managed IT support traces back to one of the following. If one sounds like your business, you are in ordinary company. The longer version is in 7 IT mistakes we keep finding in small-business offices.
A patchwork nobody owns
Microsoft 365 configured years ago by whoever happened to be technical, antivirus from one supplier, backup from another, multi-factor authentication switched on for some staff but not others, and a device fleet nobody has an inventory of. The day something fails, accountability is unclear and none of it is written down.
An IT person who only appears for projects
Someone competent turns up when you phone them, and nothing happens in between. Patches slip, licences renew on autopilot for staff who left, onboarding a new starter takes most of a week, and nobody has ever tested whether the backup restores. None of it is visible until the week it matters.
Providers who want three years up front
The larger providers open with a 36-month term, a substantial onboarding fee, and a ticketing system standing between you and anyone who can actually fix things. You become an account number, and leaving is engineered to be more trouble than staying.
Assembled around your environment, not a package tier
There is no all-in retainer to buy. Three published components combine to match how your business actually runs, with specialist project work quoted separately on top.
Ad-Hoc Support
- Every hands-on job, whether support, a fix, a project or configuration work, at $180/hr ex GST
- One-hour minimum, then 30-minute increments. No contract and no fixed-fee labour plan
- The only way labour is ever charged. The security baseline contains none of it
- Usually the cheapest answer for a small team needing help now and then
Security Baseline
- Secure remote support platform, managed endpoint platform, Bitdefender-powered antivirus and patch automation
- $29.95 per endpoint per month ex GST, with no monthly minimum attached
- Contains no hands-on labour. Any human time is billed at $180/hr ex GST
- Full detail on the Managed Security Essentials page
Device Management (MDM)
- Device management across Windows, macOS, iOS and Android, limited to the platforms you run
- Enrolment, configuration profiles, policy enforcement and compliance reporting across the fleet
- Priced per device and quoted to the size of your fleet
- Runs on its own or alongside the security baseline, whichever suits
Specialist work, scoped and quoted as projects
Any of these can sit on top of the components above, delivered as a quoted project with labour at $180/hr ex GST plus product costs. If what you need is direction rather than hands on keyboards, the virtual CIO service covers roadmaps, budgeting and vendor management, while our compliance and risk management work addresses what a regulator or insurer will actually ask you to evidence:
- Cloud backup, scoped to the data you need protected
- WordPress web design & hosting — plus custom builds
- Network design, hardening and ongoing management as sites are added
- Cyber security audits and lifting you to an Essential 8 maturity level
- Migrations — Google Workspace → Microsoft 365, on-prem → cloud
The caveats, stated before you ask
- Labour is $180/hr ex GST without exception. No fixed-fee labour plan exists here. The $29.95 baseline buys tooling and nothing else, so it includes no hands-on time.
- EDR and XDR cost extra and are not on by default. The baseline is Bitdefender-powered antivirus. Behavioural telemetry and threat hunting get layered on where the risk profile justifies the spend.
- The baseline carries no monthly minimum. You pay $29.95 ex GST per endpoint you decide to protect, and nothing beyond that.
- If pay-as-you-go genuinely works out cheaper, you will be told. Small teams with a handful of devices often are better off on ad-hoc, and selling a baseline nobody needs is a poor way to keep a client.
What the first month looks like
Quick to start, priced openly, and straight with you about what suits your situation and what does not. Nothing happens that you have not seen coming.
Scoping call (20 minutes)
We count endpoints, walk through your current setup, devices and tooling, and work out which components genuinely apply. Where ad-hoc at $180/hr on its own is the cheaper answer, that is what you will be told, with no pressure applied either way.
Onboarding (1–2 weeks)
Your environment gets documented, the security baseline is deployed wherever you have chosen, devices are enrolled into management, and the patch and policy baseline is established. Setup labour runs at $180/hr ex GST and is quoted before it starts. Specialist work is scoped on its own.
Monthly rhythm
Patching runs to schedule, policies stay enforced, alerts get triaged, and new starters are onboarded as they arrive. Each month you receive a plain summary of what was patched, what was blocked and what is coming, and every conversation about it happens with the engineer rather than a queue.
What you should hold us to
- Rates published in advance. $180/hr for labour, $29.95 per endpoint for the security baseline, per-device pricing for management. No annual "true-up" surprises, and every project quoted before it begins.
- A single engineer. Devices, security, backup and networking all sit with one person, instead of five suppliers pointing at each other while your team waits.
- You reach the engineer directly. Aaron is the engineer, and owner-operated means exactly that. Nothing sits between you and the person doing the work.
- Nothing binding you. Month to month, 30 days' notice, done. Keeping that exit open is what keeps the service worth paying for.
- Extras priced in the open. EDR and XDR, cloud backup, project hours: each quoted line by line before any work is authorised.
Someone owning it, versus calling when it breaks
Calling for help as things go wrong works perfectly well when problems are occasional. The difficulty is that with nobody accountable between calls, small unattended issues accumulate until one of them stops the business for a day. Here is how the two compare.
| What you get | Break-fix / ad-hoc only | Support Brisbane managed IT |
|---|---|---|
| Who owns your IT | Nobody — you chase it | One accountable owner who knows your setup |
| When things get done | Only after you notice and call | Proactively, before it becomes your problem |
| Patching & updates | Whenever, if at all | Scheduled and tracked across devices |
| Security posture | Reactive — fixed after an incident | Baseline maintained, gaps closed on a plan |
| Knowing your environment | Re-explained every call | Documented — we already know it |
| Billing | $180/hr, unpredictable spikes | Transparent $180/hr labour + published parts you combine |
| Lock-in | None, but no continuity either | Month-to-month, no lock-in — continuity without the cuffs |
A rough test: if you need a hand a few times a year, ad-hoc at $180/hr ex GST is the cheaper and more sensible fit, and we will tell you so. Once IT has started getting in the way of running the business, or you are hiring faster than you are documenting, having one person own it pays for itself in the incidents you never end up hearing about.
Questions worth answering up front
Direct answers on terms, what is and is not included, and how the three components stack.
What is managed IT support?
Managed IT support means somebody is looking after your technology continuously rather than only when you ring. Patching, monitoring, security hygiene and helpdesk all sit with one accountable provider instead of being spread across whoever is available. Here that means a senior engineer holds your environment: devices patched to a schedule, the security baseline maintained, and faults dealt with before they interrupt anyone's day. What differs from most providers is the commercial shape. You assemble published components, being hourly labour plus an optional per-endpoint security baseline and optional device management, instead of buying a bundled retainer priced on guesswork.
How much does managed IT support cost in Brisbane?
Labour is $180/hr ex GST, billed with a one-hour minimum and then in 30-minute increments, and the security baseline is an optional $29.95 per endpoint per month. There is deliberately no fixed monthly labour fee and no minimum spend. Device management is quoted per device against your fleet size. The whole arrangement runs month to month, and any project of substance is quoted in writing before it begins, which means the only labour you ever pay for is labour someone actually performed.
How long is the contract?
There is no contract term. The arrangement runs month to month and ends on 30 days' written notice. Providers pushing 24 and 36-month terms are protecting their revenue rather than your interests. If the service stops being worth the money you should be able to walk, and knowing that is what keeps the standard up.
What's NOT included by default?
The $29.95 baseline covers tooling and nothing else: the secure remote support platform, the managed endpoint platform, Bitdefender-powered antivirus and patch automation. It specifically excludes:
- Labour. Every hands-on task is billed at $180/hr ex GST, and no fixed-fee labour plan exists.
- EDR and XDR. Priced separately, and not part of the base antivirus.
- Device management. Quoted per device and entirely separate from the baseline.
- Cloud backup. A separate engagement, scoped to whichever data you want covered.
- Hardware, websites, networking and larger projects. Quoted as projects at $180/hr labour plus product cost, in writing, before work starts.
Anything on that list gets priced in writing before a keyboard is touched, so an invoice never tells you something you did not already know.
Is there a minimum business size?
None whatsoever. The security baseline has no monthly floor, so you pay $29.95 ex GST for each endpoint you elect to protect and not a cent beyond it, and ad-hoc work has no minimum spend either. A two-person operation needing occasional help is usually best served by ad-hoc at $180/hr ex GST alone, and that is what you will hear on the scoping call.
How long does onboarding take?
Where the security baseline or device management is involved, a small Brisbane business is generally fully onboarded inside one to two weeks:
- Week one: discovery and environment review, baseline plus Bitdefender antivirus deployed, devices enrolled into management, and the initial patch and policy standard set.
- Week two: policies tuned against real usage, the asset inventory verified against what is actually on the network, and the first monthly report produced.
Setup labour runs at $180/hr ex GST and is quoted before it starts. Specialist work such as backup, networking or a migration is scoped on its own. You can see what is happening at every stage, because an environment you cannot inspect is one you do not really control.
We already have an internal IT person — can you still help?
Yes, and it works well. A co-managed arrangement leaves your internal person owning the day to day, where their relationships and business context are worth the most, while the security baseline, device management, patching and escalation support run behind them. Labour is billed at $180/hr ex GST only as it is used.
Some of the strongest engagements we have run look exactly like this. Nobody gets replaced. The internal person is simply equipped with a proper management console and automation they were never given budget for.
What's the difference between EDR and the base antivirus?
The baseline runs Bitdefender-powered antivirus, covering real-time scanning, heuristic detection, web traffic filtering, anti-phishing and ransomware protection. EDR and XDR add behavioural telemetry and active threat hunting on top of all that.
That capability is a priced add-on rather than a default inclusion. For most Brisbane small businesses, a managed endpoint with Bitdefender antivirus is the right-sized answer, and paying for threat hunting you have nobody to action is not security. The detail sits on our Managed Security Essentials page.
Which parts do I actually need, and how do they fit together?
They are not alternatives, they stack. Every client pays $180/hr ex GST for labour, which is the only labour rate there is and is never replaced by a fixed monthly fee. Above that sit the optional $29.95 per endpoint security baseline, which has no minimum, and per-device management priced to your fleet. Take one, take two, or take all three.
If occasional ad-hoc help really is all your business needs, that is what you will be told. The right mix gets worked out on the scoping call, and nobody is pushed toward the larger number.
Do you only do security, or full managed IT?
Full IT, with security as one part of it. The per-endpoint baseline, set out on our Managed Security Essentials page, is a single optional component rather than the whole offering.
Everything else sits alongside it: device management, cloud backup, website hosting and maintenance, network design and hardening, cyber security audits, Essential 8 alignment, and migrations from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365 or from on-premises servers to cloud. Each is delivered as a quoted project with labour at $180/hr ex GST.
Want one person owning all of it?
Book a 20-minute scoping call. We count the endpoints, review your setup and devices, tell you plainly which components apply to a business your size, say so if ad-hoc at $180/hr on its own works out cheaper, and send an itemised quote inside the same week.
